摘要：本文对比研究英汉词义弱化现象。英汉名词、动词词义弱化现象是相似的,一般是从特指转为泛指的语义变化过程。英汉形容词和副词词义弱化情况是不完全相似的,相比之下,英语带有强语意的形容词和副词容易弱化,弱化通常是语义问题。汉语带有强语意的形容词和副词不容易弱化,弱化通常是语用问题。英汉词汇语义机制的差异导致了这种差异,同时导致了英汉语弥补词义弱化方式的不同。
This paper makes a contrastive study of weakening of meaning in English and Chinese. The weakening of meaning of English and Chinese nouns or verbs indicates a similar form of semantic generalization. While English adjectives and ad- verbs with strong sense are semantically prone to weakening of meaning, their Chinese counterparts are pragmatically prone of weakening of meaning. It is the different lexical semantic mechanism that results in this difference and in the different ways of compensation for weakening of meaning.
