摘要:Recent research work is discussed in connection with the corrosion of 16Mn pressure vessel steel in saturated H(2)S solution environment. These steel vessels are used in oil refinery plants for the petrochemical industry. Estimates are also made for the effects of sulfur contained in crude oil. A cantilever beam specimen was used for testing material degradation due to corrosive environment. Fatigue load was applied using an eccentric wheel attached to a variable speed motor that could vary the frequencies of the fatigue load. Data obtained-from specimens in air were used as the basis of comparison. Crack propagation rates and remaining lives of the vessel steel are presented and discussed.
