摘要：社会转型是社会结构的整体变动,社会观念变迁的速度是知识分子心态的风向标。作为中国学术思想史上重量级国学大师,王国维试图对学术与政治双重关切,对中西新旧文化普遍调适,并坚持个人精神操守与群体心理归属的矛盾统一,但他兼顾、包容这些方面的努力常陷于困境,促使他最后选择自沉。从社会学角度看,王国维自沉折射出经过五四精神洗礼后社会观念急剧变迁时期知识分子的一种复杂心态。
Social transformation is the total change of social structure, and the mentality of intellectuals is the barometer of the velocity of the changing of social views. Wang Guowei was a great master of traditional Chinese learning in the history of Chinese academic ideas. He attempted to concern both academics and politics, to generally adjust cultures between China and the West, as the new and old ones. Meanwhile, he insisted that personal spiritual integrity and group mental attribute should be contradictorily united. However, his endeavors to contain the aforementioned things frequently made him fall into troubles, consequently causing him to choose to drown himself. From the perspective of sociology, the death of Wang Guowei reflects the complex mentality of intellectuals in the transformation period of late Qing Dynasty and early republican China.
