摘要：NOVELTY - Conversion of biomass to alkanes involves heating a biomass and a catalyst mixture to form alkane(s), at a single temperature and pressure. The catalyst mixture comprises a noble metal, and transition metal and/or transition metal compound. USE - Conversion of biomass to alkane e.g. methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane, hexane, alkyl cyclohexane, 1-hexanol and cyclohexyl alcohol (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method enables conversion of biomass to alkane with high yield, by a single-step process. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) catalyst mixture, which comprises noble metal, transition metal and/or transition metal compound, and solid acid; and (2) reactor system, which has a reactor vessel configured to receive a biomass and a catalyst mixture, and a heater configured to heat the biomass and the catalyst mixture in the reactor vessel to produce alkane(s).
