摘要:While educational technology in classrooms is widely examined, how family reading environments influence students' extracurricular digital engagement rema3.1ins less clear. Drawing on Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) from 53,280 students across 15 regions, this study investigates whether parental preference for paper-based reading moderates the link between students' extracurricular ICT use frequency and reading performance. Hierarchical regression analyses reveal a significant negative association between ICT frequency and reading scores, which is attenuated by parental paper preference. Specifically, the negative effect of frequent ICT use is substantially weaker in households where parents favor paper reading, which demonstrates a clear buffering role. These findings indicate that paper-oriented home environments foster deeper, more sustained reading habits, equipping students to engage with digital tools more critically. The study underscores the importance of preserving paper-based reading culture as a supportive foundation for digital literacy and academic resilience. ? 2026 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
