摘要:Non-contact support and transport are required to meet the requirements of miniaturization and integration for the operation of tiny components. Compared to conventional excitation methods of acoustic levitation such as piezoelectric and electromagnetic, the advantages of the laser as an external field excitation are non-contact actuation, high flexibility, and easy modulation. In this study, acoustic levitation of a millimeter-scale metal guide surface in the air is successfully achieved by a nanosecond pulsed laser. Based on the photoacoustic thermoelastic mechanism, the laser-irradiated region effectively induces vibration of the metal guide due to changes in the temperature gradient of surfaces. By modulation of the laser, higher-order vibrations of the metal guide are excited, and the acoustic waves are generated on the surface of the guideway. We used this wave to achieve the acoustic levitation of tiny objects. This study enables acoustic levitation by laser-induced vibration, which extends the applications in non-contact operations such as lab-on-a-chip devices, biomedical operations, and other ultra-precision manipulation.
