摘要:NOVELTY - A bifunctional catalyst comprises sulfonic acid-surface functionalized silica gel loaded with noble metal nanoparticle including gold or ruthenium. USE - Bifunctional catalyst used in conversion of cellulose to sorbitol (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The bifunctional catalyst has simple preparation method, low raw material cost, high activity and good stability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of the bifunctional catalyst, comprising dissolving 0.24 g ruthenium(III) chloride trihydrate (RuCl3.3H2O) in 2.5 mL water with vigorous stirring to mix, dropwise adding the resulting solution to 3 g sulfonic acid-surface functionalized silica gel, impregnating the RuCl3, standing the impregnated solid material for 10 hours at ambient temperature to 80 degrees C, then drying in vacuum oven overnight, putting dried material into a tube furnace and reducing using 10% hydrogen-argon mixed gas at 150 degrees C at rate of 10 degrees C/minute for 2 hours to give the final catalyst, where the ruthenium metal loaded amount is 3 wt.%
