摘要:The sustainable deployment of a wide range of renewable energy sources is essential to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce fossil energy consumption. Alkaline flow batteries, as a highly efficient and renewable energy storage technology, have shown great potential in recent years for grid energy storage, renewable energy integration, and distributed energy systems. Their unique design enables independent storage and replacement of battery components such as electrolyte and electrode materials, thus enabling flexible expansion of battery capacity and long-life operation. In this section, we introduce two new types of flow batteries with lower cost and higher energy density: alkaline zinc-based flow batteries and alkaline iron-based flow batteries. We summarize the operating mechanisms of the two alkaline flow batteries, including the influencing factors and key performance indicators. In addition, we summarize the development bottlenecks and improvement schemes of the two alkaline flow batteries, including zinc dendrite growth in alkaline zinc-based flow batteries and electrode passivation and hydrogen precipitation reaction in alkaline iron-based flow batteries.
