摘要：语言的意义问题非常复杂,无论是语言学家还是哲学家,都不乏对语言的意义问题有深入研究者,提出过不同的意义理论,但还不能说,或者永远都不能说,可以有一种理论对语言的意义进行穷尽的描述和解释。意义是人与语言互动的产物,互动既发生在赋义阶段,也发生在释义阶段,所以意义永远只是寄寓而非固守在语言中。由此给我们的启示是,在翻译这个涉及作者、译者、读者、原语、目的语等因素的复杂过程中,要把意义完美地凝固在语言上只能是一个知其不可而为之的愿望。
Both linguists and philosophers have been delving into the subject of meanings encoded in languages and produced a variety of meaning theories, but unable to converge on a theory which is adequate for completely describing and interpreting meanings. Meanings derive from language-human beings interactions that involve encoding and decoding. We are thus invited to believe that perfectly encoding and decoding meanings linguistically, however we are trying, are beyond our means in translation.
