摘要:An all-electric shaft furnace with an output of 1.5 tonnes/day of borosilicate glass for Vycor fibers was studied discussed and comparisons were drawn with flame fired furnaces, melting factors, and batch compositions to find optimum glass quality. Four pairs of Molybdenum electrodes were horizontally installed on the upper and lower layers of an electric furnace and the losses of high content B2O3 in molten glass through the forehearth was prevented. Low heat conductivity of white afrodite and a slowly decreasing electric conductivity of soda borosilicate glass prevents the molten glass to flow easily through the throat and riser during heat up. The results show that at lower temperatures, Vycor fibers are inferior in quality due to increased thickness of the batch blanket on the surface of molten glass.
