摘要:NOVELTY - Catalyst comprises 3.2-21.8 wt.% copper, 3.2-21.8 wt.% nickel, 0-3.2 wt.% cobalt or iron and 75.0-90.4 wt.% alumina or silica. USE - Catalyst used for hydrogenation of hydroxypivalaldehyde to obtain neopentyl glycol (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method is short, cost-saving, environment friendly and has high activity and good stability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for (1) preparation of catalyst comprising carrying out precipitation method by using copper nitrate, nickel nitrate, cobalt nitrate, iron nitrate, aluminum nitrate or tetraethyl orthosilicate as active ingredient precursor and sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, sodium bisulfate and/or potassium bisulfate as precipitation agent, adjusting pH value to 9.5-10.5 and aging for 8-24 hours or dipping method by soaking alumina or silicon oxide in mixed aqueous solution of copper nitrate, nickel nitrate, cobalt nitrate or iron nitrate, drying and calcining at 400-800 degrees C; and (2) application of catalyst comprising carrying out gas phase hydrogenation of hydroxypivalaldehyde to obtain neopentyl glycol at 80-100 degrees C using catalyst and water as solvent with hydrogen pressure of 3-4 MPa where weight ratio of catalyst and neopentyl glycol is 1:25-50 and weight ratio of neopentyl glycol and solvent is 1:20-40.
