摘要:Climate change is a major challenge to global sustainable development and a critical factor affecting firms' long-term strategic decisions. This study explores the relationship between climate-resilient cities (CRC) and firm-level total factor productivity (TFP) using a difference-in-differences (DID) model and double machine learning. The results demonstrate that the CRC significantly enhances firms' TFP in the pilot area. The mechanism analysis revealed that CRC can enhance firms' attention to climate risk and reduce their perception of uncertainty, thereby influencing TFP by improving digital technology applications and fostering digital technology innovation among firms in pilot areas. Executives' technological expertise and government innovation subsidies positively moderate the promotion of TFP by the CRC. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the promoting effect of CRC on TFP is more significant for large firms, those experiencing high climate risk, located in high-risk cities, or operating in heavily polluting industries. Furthermore, additional analysis indicates that CRC improves firms' environmental performance. The findings provide guidance for firms on mitigating climate risks and offer insights into strategies for enhancing firm-level TFP.
