摘要:Background: The global aging process continues to intensify, resulting in increased morbidity, mortality and escalating health-care costs worldwide. Conventional pharmaceuticals used in the treatment of aging and agerelated diseases face several challenges, including low bioavailability, high costs, and significant side effects. Polysaccharides derived from natural resources garnered attention in anti-aging research, owing to their abundant and diverse sources, favorable safety profiles, minimal side effects and consistent efficacy. Current investigations on anti-aging polysaccharides remain deficient in holistically elucidating the phylogenetic source diversity, multi-level regulation mechanisms, and structural-activity relationships. Scope and approach: This review summarizes the sources, structural characterization and action mechanisms of natural polysaccharides with anti-aging properties, and highlights their potential for aging intervention and as anti-aging dietary supplements. Moreover, the structure-activity relationships of anti-aging polysaccharides are discussed. Finally, the current challenges of anti-aging research on natural polysaccharides and their future research directions are proposed. Key findings and conclusions: Natural polysaccharides with anti-aging effects are primarily sourced from plants, algae, and fungi, with their bioactivities mediated through diverse regulatory mechanisms. Despite the diversity in biological sources of anti-aging polysaccharides, some exhibit shared structural characteristics and analogous mechanisms of action.
