摘要:电子商务是中国经济增长的主要引擎,探究电子商务发展能否降低碳排放对加快经济绿色转型具有重要意义。基于2006—2020年中国274个城市的面板数据,以国家电子商务示范城市试点政策为准自然实验,运用多时点DID方法考察了国家电子商务示范城市建设对碳排放的影响。研究发现,国家电子商务示范城市建设显著降低了试点城市的碳排放总量和碳排放强度,这一结论在经过Weibull生存分析模型检验、多期DID异质性处理效应检验以及PSM-DID估计等一系列稳健性检验后仍然成立。机制检验表明,国家电子商务示范城市建设能够通过促进产业结构升级、缓解劳动力和资本要素错配以及推动城市绿色技术创新三条作用路径降低城市碳排放水平。异质性分析发现,相比中西部地区城市、资源型城市以及信息基础设施水平较低的城市,国家电子商务示范城市建设对碳排放的抑制作用在东部地区城市、非资源型城市以及信息基础设施水平较高的城市中更为明显。研究结论验证了城市电商化转型在节能降碳中的积极作用,为助力我国“双碳”目标实现提供了新的研究视角和经验证据。
E-commerce is the main engine of China's economic growth,and exploring whether the development of ecommerce can reduce carbon emissions is crucial for accelerating the green transformation of the economy.Based on the panel data of 274 cities in China from 2006 to 2020,and using the national e-commerce demonstration city pilot policy as a quasinatural experiment,this paper employs the multi-period difference-in-differences(DID)method to investigate the impact of the construction of national e-commerce demonstration cities on carbon emissions.This paper finds that the construction of national e-commerce demonstration cities significantly reduces the total amount and intensity of urban carbon emissions.This conclusion remains valid after a series of robustness tests,including Weibull survival analysis model testing,multi-phase DID heterogeneity treatment effect testing,and PSM-DID estimation.Mechanism testing shows that the construction of national e-commerce demonstration cities can reduce urban carbon emissions through three pathways:promoting industrial structure upgrading,alleviating the mismatch between labor and capital factors,and promoting urban green technology innovation.The heterogeneity analysis finds that compared with cities in the central and western regions,resource-based cities,and cities with lower levels of information infrastructure,the inhibitory effect of national e-commerce demonstration city construction on carbon emissions is more pronounced in cities in the eastern region,non-resource-based cities,and cities with higher levels of information infrastructure.These results verify the positive role of urban e-commerce transformation in energy conservation and carbon reduction and provide a new research perspective and empirical evidence to help China achieve its "dual carbon"goal.
