This study examines the role of children’s L2literacy levels in their development of L3phonological awareness and word levelreading and spelling development. Results based on the survey of72Uyghur children show that:(1)Uyghur children’s L2literacy levels exerts a significant influence on the development of their L3phonological awareness and word-level reading and spelling development;(2)Uyghur children’s L2literacy skills have an effect on their refinement degree of L3phonological representation,i.e.,the higher one’s L2literacy level is,the stronger his/her L3phoneme segmentation capacity is,and the more refined his/her L3phonological processing is;(3)Children’s L2literacy skills contribute to their L3word-level reading and spelling development via their L3phoneme awareness. It is concluded that a learner’s high L2literacy level is helpful for his/her sharing of the implicit language levels as well as for his/her improvement of language analytical capacity, which facilitates his/her L3learning.The above conclusions support the L2Threshold Hypothesis for a learner’s L3learning and the additive effect in bi-/multi-lingual learning.
