摘要：美国华裔作家谭恩美的成名作《喜福会》中充斥着各种中国意象及它们所代表的中国文化与哲理, 蕴涵了中国文化与哲学思想, 并且成为中西文化冲突与融合的显示器。本文通过对《喜福会》中各种中国意象的寓意分析, 来揭示其作品选用的中国意象的文化功能: 一方面反映了华裔作家自觉或不自觉地迎合美国受众而对中国文化所做的选择, 另一方面中国文化也在这种有意无意的选择中与美国文化相互渗透, 从而证明文化的传播是一个相互选择与相互渗透的过程。
The Joy Luck Club is a great success in dealing with Mother-Daughter relationship in a complex social background. The author employs various Chinese images, which embody the complicated and profound Chinese culture and eastern philosophy, to highlight the cultural conflicts and fusion within and beyond the stories. This reflects the fact that the knowledge and acceptance of Chinese culture to American culture is selective, usually determined by the need of the American culture in its own development. However, there＇s no denying that the diffusion of Chinese culture is gradual but firm, just as American culture is irresistibly penetrating into Chinese culture, which is true of all cultural communications.
