摘要：英美报刊选读课是英语专业教学大纲规定的课程。本文认为传统的报刊选读课的教学方法已不能适应信息时代的需求。文章介绍了我们对该课程在课堂教学方法和模式上所进行的改革，包括削减课时，更新教材，改进授课方式，提高教学效率。此项改革不仅能帮助作为认知主体的学生摆脱沉重的课时负担，而且能使他们提高自主学习的能力。
English newspaper reading is a course required by the syllabus for undergraduate English majors. The paper argues that the traditional way of teaching the course is not compatible with the needs of the information age. It reports on our reform on the teaching method and class model of the course and describes the reform process - reducing class hours, reconstructing teaching materials, and trying out a new format of lecturing to improve teaching proficiency. The introduction of the new approach has brought about some positive and encouraging results. The students are freed from the heavy burden of excessive class hours and are enabled to be actively engaged in autonomous learning under the teachers guidance. Meanwhile, the problems emerged from the current reform practice merit our attention and concern.
