摘要:Novel polymers with synergistic wet strength and antimicrobial activity were synthesized by condensation polymerization, followed by appropriate crosslinking. 2D NMR spectra (C-H COSY) was used to characterize the molecular structure of synthesized polymer. Anionic carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was chosen to form polyelectrolyte polymer (PEC) complex with cationic antimicrobial-wet strength polymer in an attempt to further increase wet strength and dry strength of paper. Results showed that strength of paper with individual complex component was similar to that of control sample, whereas PEC improved the strength significantly. Minimum inhibition concentrations (MIC) of polymer was lowered with more HMDA at the same guanidine content. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) images revealed that the novel polymer inhibited the growth of bacteria by destroying cell membrane of bacteria and causing the leakage of intracellular components from cells.
