A technique for continuous recovery and recycling of triethyl amine catalyst during production of glyphosate from dimethyl phosphite is discussed. Percentage recovery of triethyl amine is >98% with a process using a helical-element static mixer,a gravity decanter,and a heterogeneous azeotropic distillation tower. Energy consumption is low and the operation is convenient. This technology has been used in a glyphosate production unit turning out 30,000 tons per year.
