摘要：荀子的历史命运可谓多舛,其影响总不及孟子,亦难讨人喜欢。晚清以降,现代化思潮汹涌澎湃,在科学与民主的旗帜下,荀子被分裂而成"尊荀"和"排荀"两派。牟宗三则集这种分裂于一身,把荀子当作"内圣外王"的一个中介,在客观知识的意义上尊荀,在中国文化优于西方文化的意义上排荀。被分裂的荀子,标示着现实生活中知识的、道德的、物质的利害的纠结缭绕,时学科学、民主概念的浮泛不切,以及中国哲学现代化道路的崎岖漫长。
People have always considered that Hsun Tzu＇s philosophy has a more pragmatic flavour compared to Confucian optimism. But in the past 100 years, a heated debate about Hsun Tzu has been caused. It was due to the impact of Western culture. This article will unfold them in detail to quest for transmutation trace of Chinese philosophy＇s modernism.
